In short

Pet-friendly coliving requires written approval for your animal, your room and your dates. A brand may allow pets in selected self-contained residences while excluding them from shared homes. Confirm animal limits, extra costs, permitted shared areas and care arrangements before booking travel. A pet-friendly neighbourhood or a dog in a promotional photograph is not a property policy.

Check the building and product, not just the brand

Begin with the exact property name and room type. Ask whether the permission applies to that building, that unit and your intended stay. Large operators can manage several housing formats, and the animal rules may be different for each. Save the property-specific answer beside the booking terms so there is no uncertainty about what was discussed.

Weave’s Hong Kong FAQ illustrates the distinction: its Studios and Suites have a no-pet policy, while selected pet-friendly Residences allow a dog or cat subject to limits and an additional premium. Those Residences are self-contained homes, not evidence that the operator’s coliving studios accept animals. Use the example to ask precise questions, and reconfirm the current conditions with the property before committing.

Send one complete pet enquiry

Provide the animal’s species, size, age and number of animals, together with your dates and preferred room. Explain whether the animal is accustomed to shared corridors, lifts and unfamiliar people. Ask which records the operator needs and submit them only through its appropriate booking or support route. A complete enquiry helps the property give a useful decision rather than a vague pet-friendly response.

Ask whether approval comes from the accommodation operator, building management or both. Confirm whether it remains valid if your offered room changes. If the provider only says pets may be considered, treat that as a pending request. Do not use a non-refundable reservation as a way to find out later whether the animal will be admitted.

Know when to widen the accommodation search

Cove Singapore’s FAQ says pets are not currently allowed in its properties. Outsite’s dedicated pet policy says pets are not accepted for individual bookings. These are useful exclusions: they save time that would otherwise go into comparing rooms that cannot meet your needs. Their policies should not be applied to unrelated operators or to every country where a similarly named product appears.

If suitable shared homes are scarce, investigate a self-contained furnished apartment with optional community or coworking access. Compare the whole daily arrangement, including how you would meet people and who cares for the animal during activities. An apartment can meet your practical needs even when it is not described as coliving. Keep the accommodation type clear when comparing it with a shared-house option.

Inspect the animal’s ordinary day

Map out sleeping, feeding, exercise and the hours when you will be away. Check the walking route from the actual entrance, including stairs and lifts, and inspect windows, balconies and door arrangements. Ask about room access by cleaners or maintenance staff and how the animal is kept secure during those visits. Photographs of outdoor space should prompt questions about access and supervision, not assumptions.

Locate appropriate local care and food supplies before arrival, and establish a realistic backup if your workday runs late. Ask the property about nearby services, then confirm details directly with those providers. Check the animal’s travel and entry arrangements through the carrier and relevant official authorities separately; permission to stay in a room does not settle those requirements.

Make shared-space expectations explicit

Get a clear list of where the animal may go: lifts, corridors, kitchens, workspaces, terraces and gardens may have different rules. Ask about leads, carriers, unattended animals and cleaning after accidents. Discuss noise and how complaints are handled. A resident agreeing that they like dogs is not a substitute for a building-wide arrangement that also considers people with allergies or a fear of animals.

Avoid assuming other residents will feed, supervise or exercise your pet. Introduce the animal at a pace appropriate to the setting and ask before bringing it close to someone’s belongings or workspace. Plan for a quiet retreat in the room, and assess whether the shared environment is likely to be comfortable for the animal as well as convenient for you.

Price the permission and record the condition

Request an itemised quote that separates recurring pet charges, one-off cleaning, refundable deposits and ordinary rent. Ask what each payment covers and how damage is documented. Do not assume a pet premium buys unrestricted access or replaces responsibility for the room. If permission depends on a particular unit, confirm the total against that unit rather than the cheapest advertised room.

At arrival, record the condition of furniture, flooring and doors and share any existing damage through the agreed channel. Keep the written approval and inspection record available until the stay and any deposit process are complete. Assistance animals may be handled under a separate process from ordinary pets; explain your situation accurately and ask the operator for that process without relying on a general pet guide.

Questions people ask

Can I bring a dog to a coliving space?

Only when the specific property accepts it and you have completed its approval process. Size, unit type, shared-area rules and extra charges may affect the decision.

Does pet-friendly mean cats and all other animals are welcome?

No. Tell the operator the species and number of animals. Permission for dogs does not automatically include cats, birds, reptiles or other pets.

Is a pet fee the same as a refundable deposit?

No. Ask which charges are recurring, one-off or refundable, and what conditions apply. Keep the written breakdown with your booking records.

Can pets stay alone while I use coworking?

Ask the property about unattended animals and workspace access, then make an appropriate care plan. Permission to sleep in the room does not answer either question.

Are assistance animals covered by ordinary pet rules?

They may follow a separate process. Contact the operator directly about your situation and the applicable requirements; do not present an ordinary pet as an assistance animal.
